Lovely Meal

I first tasted this starter many years ago at a restaurant in the Chinese quarter of Central Birmingham.

The idea is to take a lettuce leaf, place a spoonful of meat inside, sprinkle on a dash of soy sauce, roll up the leaf and take a bite.

Preparation Time:  10 Minutes
Cooking Time: 15 Minutes

Serves 4

 3/4 lb. minced pork  2 tblsp.fresh ginger,grated
 1 medium onion,chopped  2 tblsp.dark soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, crushed  Small iceberg lettuce

Break off the individual leaves of the iceberg lettuce, and place in a serving bowl.

Heat a tablespoon of cooking oil in a medium frying pan, and gently fry the onion and garlic until soft but not browned. Add the pork mince and ginger, and fry until the meat is cooked and just turning brown. Drain off the fat, add the soy sauce and heat through.

Turn the meat mixture into a small dish and serve alongside the lettuce leaves.
